Completion of marketing research on the Lagan seaport project

NORDENG, together with our international partners, the British Portia Management Services and the Belgian Port of Antwerp, have successfully completed marketing research and a financial feasibility study for the new seaport project near the town of Lagan (Republic of Kalmykia). The results will be sent for approval to Rosmorrechflot and to the RF Government in the prescribed manner.

Technical services

There are sea and river ports. Seaports serve transportation by sea vessels, while river ports serve only the river fleet. However, seaports can be located not only on the sea coast, but in the mouths of rivers, and even at a fairly large distance upstream. The Port of Rosario on the Paraná River, Argentina, for instance, is located 300 kilometers away from the coast, and the seaport of Igarka on the Yenisei River is located 685 kilometers from the river mouth.

  • Pilot service provides vessel escort from the pilot station (the place where the pilot boarded the ship) to the berth. Despite the pilot’s status as only an adviser to the captain (the pilot’s presence on a ship does not eliminate the captain’s responsibility for steering the ship), pilotage is mandatory in most ports of the world.

  • Port traffic control service supervises all movements of all vessels in the water area using radio equipment.

  • The port fleet assists ships with tugs when navigating the water area and mooring at berths.

  • Hydrographic service installs and maintains navigational equipment (lighthouses, signal lights, lateral and cardinal signs), as well as periodically measures depths and dredges in the port water area.

  • Emergency rescue service performs rescue work in the port area. It includes fire-fighting units (both shore- and offshore-based), a diving unit and a medical unit.

Support services

There may also be various support services at the port, both directly related to the port and representing independent companies based in the port area. This may include shipbuilding and ship repair yards with docks, suppliers of fuel and fresh water, collectors of waste and dirty oil residue, companies performing minor maintenance of vessels right at the berth, etc.
